Really Facebook Shutting down ?

We heard some unbelievable rumors. That most popular social networking site Facebook is shutting down and but the rumors also state a date of March 15. this can be a shock for the lovers of social networking. Because every 3rd man is connected with social network on the Facebook the rumor that’s sweeping the globe and worrying an awful lot of people who are working themselves up into rather a frenzy about it.
Google Trends is seeing big mentions of Facebook shutting down and it’s also causing Twitter mayhem as the rumor says fairly emphatically that Facebook is not merely temporarily halted or undergoing maintenance, but completely ending once and for all.

Over on The Huffington Post, Craig Kannalley reports some of the reaction going on at Twitter and Facebook where a group to stop the closing down has already been set up. It’s possible that the rumors started with an amalgamation of things that got confused and made people add up one and one to make three.

Firstly Yahoo announced that Yahoo Video was to cease the upload of videos on March 15 so that may be where the date comes from. Secondly a recent CNN blog post reporting on the Goldman Sachs investment into Facebook said it could be “the beginning of the end”

Samyuktha Krishnappa over on International Business Times goes one further and tells us that rumors started from reports on a blog saying that Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook CEO, gave a press conference and allegedly said, “Facebook has gotten out of control and the stress of managing this company has ruined my life. I need to put an end to all the madness.” Another report says that Zuckerberg said in a phone call, “I personally don’t think it’s a big deal. And to be honest, I think it’s for the better. Without Facebook, people will have to go outside and make real friends.”

The same blog spot also said that the V-President of Technical Affairs at Facebook, Avrat Humarthi, asserted that the site was to close down on March 15 and so people should remove their photographs from the site. Please don’t believe any of this as we know some people are genuinely worried about it. We should also point out that none of the typical news or tech sites have reported on this yet and they surely would have been the first to know if there was any truth to it.

Our advice here at OSM is not to believe any of these rumors and if it does turn out to be true I will personally eat my hat (not that I have one). Have you any thoughts on this rumor to share with us? If so please do send in your comments as we’d love to know what you think about this.
